Disposable Gloves Buying Guide
You have your Hat, your Apron, and . . . Wait, where are your Gloves?
A cook at a local restaurant is preparing a steak and salad dish for a customer. She starts by putting on gloves, picking up raw steak and putting it on the grill. She then begins putting together the salad. She adds lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons, and finishes by sprinkling on some shredded cheese and adding ranch dressing on the side. The steak is cooked to a perfect, delicious medium well and the dish is sent out to the customer while the cook begins preparing the next order. She is still wearing the exact same gloves that she used to picked up the raw steak. See the problem?
Most restaurants require cooking staff wear gloves, and change them often. This is especially important after handling uncooked meat as they carry harmful bacteria that could make customers seriously ill. Another issue that restaurateurs face is choosing the correct disposable gloves for the job. Without the right gloves, forget worrying about contamination, worry about gloves tearing, leaking, or even melting if working over a grill. To prevent plastic cheese from being the next fad, and to help you make the tough choice of what glove works best with what job, we’ve broken down our most popular disposable glove options and given you the scoop on what should go where. High five, anyone?

Powdered or Powder-Free?
That is the question. Our latex, synthetic, and vinyl gloves come powdered or powder-free while our nitrile and yellow rubber household gloves come powder-free. So what’s the difference? Is it something you need to worry about when figuring out if the glove fits?
Powdered Gloves: Powdered gloves have cornstarch added to assist users when sliding their hands into the gloves, absorb condensation or perspiration, and keep gloves from sticking together when being manufactured. Powdered gloves are generally easier to put on than powder-free gloves but have been known to cause allergies due to the powder. They are cheaper than powder-free gloves.
Powder-Free Gloves: Powder-free gloves undergo a process called chlorination to make the gloves less sticky and easier to put on. In this process gloves are treated with a chlorine solution, rinsed with water, and dried to get rid of the majority of powdered residue. More expensive than powdered gloves, powder-free gloves are preferable in some situations as the powder from powdered gloves can come off when the user takes off the gloves and cause contamination in certain environments.
